Flying Saucers and Chrome Plate Is Out Now

A flying saucer hovers over a drive-in movie theater under a stormy purple sky, lightning crackling behind it

Flying Saucers and Chrome Plate, book four in the Spaceship Mechanic series, is available now.

Most people would look at a battered 1947 Wisconsin license plate in a box of alien junk and call it strange. Rix Banner calls it a problem—and problems are meant to be fixed.

But when the plate turns out to be dusted with Fantastium, following its trail means taking Calypso back to quarantined Earth, where hiding a spaceship in his aunt's barn may be the easy part.

Before long, Rix, Kel, and Amari are dodging thunderstorms, suspicious locals, galactic bureaucracy, and very real flying saucers over the cranberry bogs of Wisconsin. There are secret alien operations to uncover, old farm machinery to coax back to life, and more than one problem Aunt Ella believes can be solved with a shotgun.

It's a fast, funny homecoming adventure—and the universe may never look at small-town Wisconsin the same way again.

You can find Flying Saucers and Chrome Plate here or listen to the audiobook on Audible.

As for what I'm working on next: so many things.

I've never had quite as many projects in the pipeline as I do now. Most significantly, I'm rolling out not one but three new websites.

FickleDragon.com has long deserved better than the beleaguered WordPress site I've had for fifteen years. It was trying to serve as both a publishing platform and an author-branding site. As it turns out, I write as both Mac Worden and Jamie McFarlane. I'll leave it to your imagination what the other new sites are.

I've also been working on new material about the different series and adding it to those sites. We'll get into that more in a future update. I have some serious bragging to do about what I'm building for Privateer Tales. The work isn't finished, but it's exciting work.

There's plenty more going on around the Fickle Dragon office—which, to be clear, is just a room in my house—but I'll save that for another day.

Keep sending those emails. I answer every one, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Happy reading!

Jamie
(And sometimes Mac, but that's another story entirely.)
